Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas brings awareness to high-demand jobs and the skills they require while equipping middle and high school students with tools and information to prepare for their future careers. Staff work closely with school district personnel, postsecondary training providers, employers, and community partners to enhance career awareness and exploration.
Opportunities
Support is structured around core focus areas and is adaptable to the needs of individual schools.
- Workforce staff deliver engaging and interactive career awareness workshops to 6th-12th grade students in a classroom setting on the following topics: labor market information, high demand jobs, employability skills, and career pathways.
- Work readiness is addressed through sessions on resume writing, interview skills, and mock interviews with Workforce staff and community partners.
- Virtual reality offers over 45 different career simulations geared toward students in 6th-12th grade. There are several different ways to use virtual reality:
- Host a virtual reality event with up to 20 headsets and at least two Workforce Solutions staff.
- Go deeper with a virtual reality lab featuring interest assessments with corresponding career matching, goal setting, and postsecondary programs.
- Assist deciding seniors with career exploration and/or career training simulations.
