Highway Maintenance Technician I
Position Description
Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put-up warning signs.
- Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
- Assists in monitoring materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.
- Assists in overseeing the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
- Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
- Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
Minimum Qualifications:
No experience or education required.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
Salary: $31,144.00 - $49,134.00 per year
