The Mechanic I is responsible for the proficient operation of the tire and service bays. Performs basic mechanical work, effecting minor repairs related to preventive maintenance and safety inspection. Participates in trainings targeting comprehensive repair and fabrication. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Repair tires knowledgeably and efficiently; 2) Mount and balance tires; 3) Maintain tire bay area, equipment and tire truck, keeping them neat and clean; 4) Perform preventive maintenance which includes service and safety inspections; 5) Maintain service bay and equipment in a neat and clean manner; 6) Keep preventive maintenance card file updated and accurate; 7) Monitor fuel levels (stick fuel tanks) at least once a week; 8) Respond to tire related service calls primarily, and other service calls as assigned; 9) Assist Mechanic II & III as needed; 10) Process paperwork, primarily work orders, in a timely and accurate manner; 11) Participate in training on the job which includes: a) Minor automotive repair, i.e. brakes, belts, hoses, tune-up; b) Front end repair, i.e. shocks and parts changing; c) Air conditioning – recovery machines, gauges; d) Brake lathe operation; e) Diagnostic scan tool and tester operation; f) Build hydraulic hoses and hydraulic crimp tool operation; g) Small engine repair; 12) Complete continued education courses and become certified in areas consistent with expertise; 13) Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
