Communications Officer

Job Description:

• Communications Officers receive and assess emergency and routine public phone calls
• Categorizes, and prioritizes the request for law enforcement assistance
• Obtains necessary information
• Researches involved parties, locations and addresses for prior events, for the officer safety information
• Determines what resources to use, and dispatches units to incident locations
• Tracks units and maintains cognizant knowledge of all filed units as to their status and location throughout the assigned shift
• Monitors other agency radio traffic for possible assistance requirements and exchanges information with other law enforcement officials

        Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• No DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Convictions
• 21 Years of Age or Older
• United States Citizen
• Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License
• NO FELONY Convictions
• NO"B" Misdemeanor Convictions (10 yrs.)

All communications officers are required to attend a 40-hour course at the West Central Texas Law Enforcement Academy for telecommunicator certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Upon successful completion of the Academy and state exam, Certified Telecommunicator status is attained.
